Privacy Policy

1. Who is responsible for your information

Israeli Hebrew Institute, Arlozorov 34, Ramat Gan, Israel, business ID 212291405, decides how and why your personal information is used. You can reach us at info@israelihebrewinstitute.com or +972 55-242-0430 about anything in this policy.

This policy is written to meet the Israeli Protection of Privacy Law, 5741–1981 and the Protection of Privacy (Data Security) Regulations, 5777–2017.

2. What we collect

You are not required by law to give us any of this. But without it we cannot teach you, and we say below what happens if you do not.

When you contact us

• Your name, phone number, and anything you choose to tell us in the message.
• If you write by email, your email address.

When you become a student

• Contact details, your Hebrew level and learning goals, lesson history, and lesson notes.
• Billing details: what you bought, when, how much, and the invoice we issued.
• We never see or store your full card number. Card details go directly to our payment provider on their own secure page.

When you join a free group or course

• The Daily Hebrew Word group runs on WhatsApp. Members of a WhatsApp group can see the phone number of other members. That is how WhatsApp works and it is not something we control.
• Our beginners course is hosted on YouTube. Watching it is governed by Google’s privacy policy, not ours.

When you visit this website

• Standard technical information your browser sends: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and the time of the visit. See section 6 on cookies.

3. Why we use it, and on what basis

• To answer you and arrange lessons — because you asked us to, and to perform our agreement with you.
• To teach you and track your progress — to perform our agreement with you.
• To take payment and issue invoices — to perform our agreement and to meet Israeli accounting and tax obligations.
• To keep the site working and secure — our legitimate interest in running a functioning website.
• To send you marketing messages — only with your explicit consent. See section 4.

4. Marketing messages and how to stop them

Israeli law (the Communications Law, section 30A, often called the “spam law”) requires your explicit consent before we send you advertising by email, SMS, or messaging apps.

• We send marketing messages only to people who have clearly agreed to receive them.
• Every marketing message identifies us and tells you how to stop.
• You can withdraw consent at any time — reply STOP, use the unsubscribe link, leave the WhatsApp group, or email us. We act on it promptly and at no cost to you.
• Messages about a lesson you have booked — a time change, a link, a receipt — are service messages, not marketing, and continue as long as you are a student.

We do not add anyone to a mailing list without being asked to. Today, almost everything we send is a service message about a lesson you have booked. If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent first, in a box you have to tick yourself.

5. Who else sees your information

We do not sell your information and we do not rent it out. We share it only with the services we need in order to operate:

• Our payment provider, to take payment securely.
• Zoom, to run the lesson.
• Google Workspace, for email, calendar, and lesson notes.
• WhatsApp (Meta), where you contact us or join a group through it.
• Our hosting provider, which stores this website.
• Our accountant and the tax authorities, where the law requires it.
• A court or authority, where we are legally obliged to disclose.

Some of these providers are outside Israel, so your information may be stored abroad. We use established providers who apply recognised data-protection standards.

If we start using a new service that handles your information, we will add it to this list.

6. Cookies and site measurement

This site uses only what it needs to work, plus anonymous measurement of how many people visit and which pages they read. We do not use cookies to build an advertising profile of you.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking them will not stop you reading this site.

To be specific: this site runs no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no third-party tracking script of any kind. The only things stored in your browser are a note that you dismissed the cookie message and a note that you have already seen the opening animation. If we ever add an analytics tool, we will name it here and ask for your consent before it loads.

7. How long we keep it

• Enquiries that do not become lessons: up to 12 months, then deleted.
• Student records: for as long as you are a student, and for 24 months afterwards, in case you come back.
• Invoices and accounting records: seven years, as Israeli tax law requires.

8. How we protect it

We keep your information on password-protected accounts with two-factor authentication where the service offers it, we limit access to the people who need it to teach or bill you, and we review those permissions periodically. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the protection of your information seriously and act quickly if something goes wrong.

9. If something goes wrong

If we become aware of a security incident that puts your personal information at real risk — an account of ours compromised, information reaching someone who should not have it — we will act on it immediately, tell the people affected without delay, and notify the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority where the law requires it. We will tell you what happened, what it means for you, and what we did about it.

10. Your rights

Under the Protection of Privacy Law you may:

• Ask what information we hold about you, and receive a copy of it.
• Ask us to correct anything that is wrong, incomplete, or out of date.
• Ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep.
• Withdraw your consent to marketing at any time.

Write to info@israelihebrewinstitute.com and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Israeli Privacy Protection Authority.

11. Children

Our services are for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 18. If you believe we hold information about a minor, tell us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. If the change is significant, we will tell current students directly.
