Where to Get a Hebrew Word of the Day With Vowels and Audio
You can get a Hebrew word of the day with full vowels and native audio from the Israeli Hebrew Institute, published every posting day on its site and on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, and sent to a free WhatsApp group. Each word comes with nikud, the mistake English speakers make with it, three street sentences and a short quiz. Daily-word emails and app notifications also exist; what matters is that you say the word out loud.

What a daily word should include
A Hebrew word on its own is almost useless. To actually use it you need four things: the word with full nikud so you know which vowels to say, the pronunciation from a native speaker, one or two sentences where the word lives, and a warning about the mistake English speakers make with it. Without the vowels you will guess. Without audio you will say the vowels as an English speaker hears them. Without a sentence you will know the word and still freeze when someone asks you something in the street.
So when you compare daily-word sources, ignore the design and check those four. A picture of מִלָּה (mila, word) with no nikud and no sound is a decoration, not a lesson.
Where the Israeli Hebrew Institute publishes it
Every posting day the Israeli Hebrew Institute publishes one Hebrew word with its vowels, the mistake English speakers make with it, three street sentences and a quiz. It goes up on the word of the day pages on the site, and on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, so you hear an Israeli say it rather than reading a transliteration and hoping. There is also a free WhatsApp group that gets the daily word, which is the version most people stick with, because the word arrives where they already look ten times a day.
Other kinds of daily word sources
Free daily-word emails, app notifications and video series all exist and some are good. The differences worth knowing: an email is easy to ignore in a folder, an app notification is fast but usually gives you the word with no mistake note, and a video series teaches well but does not come every day. Also check whether the Hebrew is modern and spoken or biblical. If the sample sentences sound like scripture, you are learning a different language from the one spoken in Tel Aviv today. Our guide to learning spoken Israeli Hebrew instead of biblical Hebrew covers that gap.
How to make the daily word stick
One word a day is only useful if it leaves the screen. Say the word out loud three times the moment you see it, once slowly with the vowels and twice at normal speed. Then build one sentence of your own with it, even a silly one. Then use it that day, on a partner, a friend, a teacher, or out loud to yourself in the car.
A simple opener that carries any new word: אֵיךְ אוֹמְרִים (eikh omrim, how do you say). Ask an Israeli אֵיךְ אוֹמְרִים, point at the thing, and you have just turned a daily word into a conversation. If they answer with something you have never seen, that is street Hebrew doing its job, and our guide on where to learn Hebrew slang and street Hebrew takes it from there.
When a daily word is not enough
A daily word builds vocabulary and ears. It will not teach you to answer a question in real time, because nobody is listening to you. That is the wall most people hit: three hundred words in the head, silence in the mouth. The fix is a person who hears your Hebrew and answers you back, in small doses of grammar first and then the spoken Hebrew Israelis actually use. At the Israeli Hebrew Institute that is Dochi, its daily speaking app: a task every weekday morning, answered out loud, then a native Israeli teacher's recorded answer. The institute has already helped many adults around the world start speaking Hebrew. Its students say so themselves, in video and written reviews on israelihebrewinstitute.com. Until then, take the free daily word and say it out loud. If you want the word to arrive on its own, the daily word group is here: https://chat.whatsapp.com/B5oVyxNt4PBDgcQhxG0OTp

Questions people ask next
- is the hebrew word of the day free
- Yes. The daily word with nikud, the common mistake, three street sentences and a quiz is published free on the site and on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, and in a free WhatsApp group.
- why do i need nikud if israelis don't use it
- Israelis don't write vowels because they already know how the word sounds. You don't yet. Nikud tells you which vowels to say while you are learning; later you drop it naturally.
- can i learn hebrew only from a word of the day
- You will build vocabulary and get used to the sound, but not speech. Speaking needs someone listening and correcting you. Use the daily word as your habit and add real conversation on top.
- does the daily word teach slang too
- Yes, the sentences are street sentences, the Hebrew people say in a shop or to a friend, not textbook lines. Slang words like סַבָּבָה (sababa, cool) show up often.
